Getting Started
How do I log water?
From the dashboard, use the quick-log buttons (+250ml, +500ml, +750ml) for fast logging. For a custom amount, tap Custom or the + button in the centre of the tab bar to open the full logging menu.
What is the Hydration Score?
Your Hydration Score shows how close you are to your daily goal, displayed as a percentage in the score ring on the dashboard. It factors in your water intake, caffeine debt (which reduces your effective hydration), and sweat offsets from workouts (which increase your goal).
How is my daily goal calculated?
Your base goal is calculated from your body weight, gender, and activity level during onboarding. Throughout the day, the goal adjusts dynamically — workouts add a sweat offset based on duration, intensity, and activity type.
Can I change my daily goal?
Yes. Go to Settings > Profile and update your weight, gender, or activity level. Hydra will offer to recalculate your goal based on the new values. You can also set a custom goal manually.
Tracking Features
How does caffeine tracking work?
Caffeine has a dehydrating effect. When you log a caffeinated drink, Hydra calculates a hydration debt that subtracts from your effective hydration. You can choose from common presets (coffee, espresso, energy drinks, etc.) or enter a custom amount in milligrams.
What are electrolytes and why should I track them?
Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) are essential for proper hydration, especially during exercise. Hydra lets you log electrolyte drinks from presets like Gatorade, Lucozade Sport, Nuun, and SiS GO, or enter a custom amount. Tracking electrolytes gives you a more complete picture of your hydration.
How do workout sweat offsets work?
When you log a workout, Hydra estimates your sweat loss based on the duration, intensity, and activity type. This amount is added to your daily goal so you know how much extra water you need to replace what was lost. The formula uses 10ml per minute as a base, adjusted by intensity and activity factors.
How do I delete a log entry?
Swipe left on any entry in the activity feed on the dashboard. A 5-second undo window appears in case you delete something by mistake.
Health Integrations
How does Apple Health integration work?
Hydra can read your workouts and heart rate from Apple Health to automatically calculate sweat offsets. It can also write your water intake back to Apple Health so your hydration data stays in sync across all your health apps. Health integrations are available to Pro subscribers.
Will workouts from Apple Health be added automatically?
No — Hydra never adds workouts silently. When it detects a new workout from Apple Health, it shows a prompt asking you to confirm before adding it. You can dismiss any workout you don't want to track.
How do I connect or disconnect Apple Health?
Go to Settings > Integrations to connect Apple Health. To revoke permissions, go to your iPhone's Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Hydra and adjust the permissions there.
Insights & History
How do I view my hydration history?
Tap the Insights tab to see a monthly calendar with colour-coded score indicators (green for good, amber for moderate, red for low). Tap any day to see a detailed breakdown of your intake, workouts, and stats for that day. A weekly bar chart shows your recent trend at a glance.
How far back can I see my history?
Free users can view the last 7 days of history. Pro subscribers get access to the full 90-day history with all insights and trends.
Reminders
How do reminders work?
Hydra sends local notifications to remind you to drink water throughout the day. You can configure the interval and active hours in Settings > Reminders. There's also a smart nudge at 2pm if you're behind on your goal, and a post-workout reminder to rehydrate.
How many reminders can I set?
Free users can set up to 3 reminders per day. Pro subscribers get unlimited reminders with full customisation.
Subscription & Pro
What does Hydra Pro include?

- Apple Health auto-import for workouts
- Caffeine and electrolyte tracking

How much does Hydra Pro cost?
Hydra Pro is available as a monthly subscription at $4.99/month, or an annual subscription at $34.99/year. The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Go to Settings > Subscription and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings > Subscription > Manage Subscription, which will take you to your App Store subscription settings. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
What happens if my subscription lapses?
Your data is never deleted. You keep all your logged history and your chosen accent colour. Pro features (health import, caffeine/electrolyte tracking, cloud sync, full history) revert to the free tier until you resubscribe.
Account & Data
Do I need an account to use Hydra?
No. Hydra works fully offline without an account. All your data is stored locally on your device. An account is only needed if you want to enable cloud sync across multiple devices (Pro feature).
How do I sign in?
Go to Settings > Account and choose to sign in with Apple, Google, or email and password.
How do I delete my account and data?
Go to Settings > Account and tap Delete Account. This will remove your account and all associated cloud data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All local data is stored using AES-encrypted storage on your device. If you use cloud sync, your data is transmitted over TLS encryption and protected by row-level security policies — only you can access your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Units & Display
Can I switch between millilitres and fluid ounces?
Yes. Go to Settings and change your unit preference. All amounts throughout the app will update to your chosen unit. Data is always stored in millilitres internally for accuracy.
Can I change the accent colour?
Yes. Go to Settings > Appearance to choose from 12 accent colour presets. Blue is available for all users; the remaining colours are a Pro feature.
